If at all possible, make it known to the relevant people when people act in this way. You don't have to publically shame them on the internet, that probably wouldn't help anyway.

On collaborating in academia. As noted by the OP, collaborations are like kissing. Which is a very apt metaphor, I think. Nobody is getting into anyone's panties (yet), but you don't just kiss a rando you meet at a conference. And you definitely don't kiss that arrogant, selfish, untrustworthy snake that you have there on campus.
The trick is to know who that arrogant, selfish, untrustworthy snake is. As it happens with kissing, you should know beforehand.
