A message from Joan Schmelz, director of USRA at Arecibo, who also provides the attached flyer :

The attached flyer on Arecibo’s Asteroid discoveries and milestones was compiled before Hurricane Maria and has been sitting in a folder on my desktop computer waiting patiently for internet to return to AO. That day has arrived!

Thanks to Arecibo’s #TeamRadar as well as Lindley Johnson and Kelly Fast at NASA HQ for compiling and editing this list. Thanks also to AO’s Ricky Correa for the beautiful picture. Please print out and display the flyer on a nearby bulletin board.

For Users, here is a short update on the situation at Arecibo Observatory as we come back from Hurricane Maria:

-AO has internet! It is slow and intermittent, but it is good enough to send email;
-AO now has a couple of working phone lines;
-The water under the dish in "Arecibo Lake" is finally dropping, so we can begin to access the tie downs;
-AO has been doing pulsar drift scans at night;
-AO will begin tracking pulsars this weekend – for now, this is with scripts only;
-The commercial power-line repair is getting closer and closer to the observatory – power is currently supplied by the diesel generators;
-AO hopes to schedule a test of the S-band Planetary Radar system next week – this is contingent on several factors, including diesel supply and generator health;
-Please stay tuned for updates on the 430 and HF.
