Dunning-Kruger and the imposter effects are two sides of the same coint

Dunning-Kruger, stupid people being too stupid to realise they're stupid (https://decoherency.blogspot.com/2017/07/the-dunning-kruger-effect-has-been.html), has the interesting flip side of clever people not realising that everyone else is stupid.

  1. Or the flip side is Imposter Syndrome, when amazing people think they're incompetent.

  2. Oooh, that gives me a nice idea for a chart... something with an axis for actual cleverness and an axis for self-perceived cleverness.

So we've got people who are :
Very clever, and know it (annoying SOBs)
Very clever, and don't know it (suffering from imposter syndrome)
Not very clever, and know it (Socrates)
Not very clever, and don't know it (Dunning-Kruger)

  6. Well, in his own estimation Jon Eckberg , he was a self aware moron but everyone else had a massive dose of Dunning-Kruger. :P

  7. A surprising number of people don't even understand what the word "understand" means. It took me almost 30 years of trying to teach basic mathematics to realize this. Upon this realization, it became clear that it was time for me to retire from teaching.

We have an outstanding example of the Dunning-Kruger effect in the White House, and he's driving at full speed straight for the cliff in his delusion that he can make the car fly.
