I guess some people feel like it's less of a case of choosing a bad raft over drowning and more a case of choosing to be eaten by sharks or piranhas. That's my feeling in the case of the UK, at least regards the major parties, though I can't for the life of me see how it applies in the USA.

" less of a case of choosing a bad raft over drowning and more a case of choosing to be eaten by sharks or piranhas"
ReplyDeleteYeah, that is how I feel too. The comic would probably be more accurate if the raft was also sinking.
Does the end justify the means? I can't, in good conscience, vote for someone I morally disagree with 60% of the time just because I disagree with the alternative 90% of the time. Instead I tend to vote for the long-shot. Even if there is nearly zero probability of them getting elected, I use my vote to send a message. "Guys, be more like this person".
If the choice is between sinking in the boat or sinking in the raft I would rather die swimming for land.
Josh Hendrix Anyone who really feels that the candidates are so similarly awful that there's no significant moral advantage to any of them is fully justified in not voting at all, in my view.
ReplyDeleteWhat I don't get is how anyone comes to this conclusion regarding Trump and Clinton, for example.
I live in Georgia, a deeply red state. There was no question that my state's electoral college would go Republican. A vote for Clinton would have been wasted in my opinion. I voted for Johnson in 2016.
ReplyDeleteJosh Hendrix You are wrong, Georgia wasnt that deep a win for trump, only highly organized Voter Suppression made it look so. It was trending Blue in the weeks before the election. You vote also would have given The DNC ( maybe Avnetti or Liz warren ) money to Defeat Trump .
ReplyDeleteJosh Hendrix JUst so you dont think I am Biased. I'm a Democrat and voted 2x for Willam Weld as Governor and he would make a TERRIFIC President.
ReplyDeleteWatch our upcoming governer's race and then tell me how red you think Georgia is. There are a few growing blue spots but it will be a while yet...
ReplyDeleteJosh Hendrix I was going by the polls in 2016.
ReplyDeleteBut thats no need to drink poison, Ill pass on your offer
