"OK, Google, lace up all the shoes within 50 metres". Hours of fun.
Nike has launched self-lacing trainers, which fit themselves to the shape of the foot and are controlled via a smartphone. It is the latest iteration of the futuristic footwear, first referred to in the film Back to the Future Part II, and made reality by Nike in 2016. The latest version, called Nike Adapt, will cost $350 and will not require a physical button to activate the laces.

I have currently serious problems with my knees and those are bound to become worse over the years. A shoe I could slip in without the help of hands and that would lace up itself can be a huge improvement for me.
ReplyDeleteBut for 350$ it should have a very long lifetime (e.g. 2 years in case of daily usage).
Martin Seeger for colder and or wet conditions, allow me recommend Salomon SpeedCross 3 cross country running shoes. I bought them for that kind of use, but now I use them every day, winter and summer, in city, at the office, and yes, sometimes even with my suit on. I know it is not a correct dress code but I don't care. They are that comfortable, and they don't have shoelaces. You can adjust them to be easy just to slip on. The only minus point is that being waterproof they can get hot, if you wear them all day long.
ReplyDeleteDress codes are no issue for me. My customers all have given me dispensations long ago ;-). I will look into it...
ReplyDeleteSakari Maaranen I looked at them and they are similar to my current shoes (https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B01N3MWH84/). But with those I don't get the heel into the shoe without the help of my hands as the opening is too small. Is this different for the Salomons? My dorsum is rather high there :-(.

Martin Seeger I do also have a long shoe horn, although I barely need it for the Salomons. They are definitely easier to put on than my other shoes, but I still use the shoe horn out of habit. It's a Zack Vangio.
ReplyDeleteMartin Seeger they have a device for putting on socks
ReplyDeleteSakari Maaranen I ordered the Salomon SpeedCross through Amazon, but I have to send them back. The opening is MUCH too small, I have no chance to get my foot into that shoe.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that Martin Seeger . Shoes can be a challenge to purchase online.
