"It's all just wrong", says scientist

""The data so far has confirmed that our theory is really really good, which is frustrating because we know it's not!" Prof Shears says. "We know it can't explain a lot of the Universe.
"So instead of trying to test the truth of this theory, what we really want to do now is break it - to show where it stops reflecting reality. That's the only way we're going to make progress."
"We have a fantastic model - that we hate," he chuckles."
"It has stood up to precision measurements for 50 years. We get more and more precise, and it stands up and stands up. But we hate it, because it doesn't explain the universe."

That's the way to do it.

  1. Makes me wonder what they have in plan to actually try and break/see how it breaks, can't imagine that's an easy list to put together let alone actually test for.

  2. Adventures In Blender It is more like they are going to do experiments and collect data under more and more extreme conditions.

Eventually they will find data that the current theory gives incorrect predictions on. That will "break" that theory (which is the basis of all of particle physics).

The direction in which it breaks will give vital clues in formulating a better theory.

    This is how science works.

The scientists are trash-talking because they already know the current theory has some major shortcomings. It is just they do not have any clues to help create a better theory. Yet.

  3. Winchell Chung Trash-talking ? I would say it's pitch perfect ! Infinitely better than media reports which suggest that everything is done now.

  4. At some point, it is just a waste. The elements (atoms) are the essential directed working parts inside of every directed living organism. If you don't know how visible things became significantly sequenced not by visible means, you are wasting your time trying to learn more.
