". An atheist, we tend to assume, is someone who thinks science should be the basis of our beliefs and tries to convert others to this view of things. In the type of atheism that's making the most noise today, religion is a primitive theory of how the world works - an intellectual error without human value, which we'd be better without."
Which tells you an awful lot about the state of modern atheism.

ReplyDelete— Who is "we"?
A better question would be, is atheism intrinsically opposed to theism?
ReplyDeleteYes, pretty much. That's why there's an "a" in it.
A natural social evolution I believe.
ReplyDeleteAt a time when the most highly educated were priests, it was a given that you would seek your answers and understanding from the church.
In an effort to answer our most fundamental questions the only answers available to us were Scripture.
Answers that were formulated "before we understood what an atom was, or where the sun went at night".
As we acquired understanding, it was inevitable that a collision of ideals would occur.
It was a discussion between scientists and theologians where Steven Hawking said
I don't think physics teaches us how to behave toward our neighbors
Our technological evolution has far outpaced our social growth - a dangerous imbalance.
Personally, I believe our new global communications network is a catalyst for social evolution that has come none too soon.
There is no room in my life for angels and demons, but I do see a dire need for social evolution in this world.
It's worth to mention that none of the early atheists in Modern history was a scientist:
