The brothers Sanders

Bernie has a fair crack at becoming President of the United States, while his brother Larry fails to become an MP for the Green Party in the UK. They must have some interesting conversations...

  1. Even when the odds against you are extreme, and victory may actually be impossible, you can often win simply by putting up a good fight.

Bernie's campaign has been pulling the Overton window back toward the left in a big way.  The grassroots are there.  The mainstream will catch up soon enough.  It would be great if he could upset Hillary, but an equally impressive feat will be in energizing the progressive base of the Democratic Party.  All Democrats will be pulled left if he can pull that off, and it will accomplish more than 4 - 8 years as the PotUS ever could.

  5. To say that Bernie has a fair chance of becoming President is waaaaay premature. HRC hasn't paid him the slightest notice yet, and if she focuses the attention of her machinery on him, he's not going to know what hit him.
This notion that he might win is as premature as the pronouncements that "Obamacare is working," even though it STILL hasn't been fully implemented...

  6. My point is that the scale of Bernie's success and ambitions are very different to Larry's, though they're in basically the same vocation.

And again a political post attracts the attention of people I've never interacted with without a single reshare. I don't get why this happens.

EDIT : Apparently this one does have reshares but they weren't being shown for some reason. So in this case attracting unusual attention does make sense. Fair enough.

Personal attacks/abuse will not be tolerated. If you must start a political debate (and I really only thought it was interesting how different Bernie and Larry's political careers are), keep it... well, not clean, but less foul than the above comment, please.

I didn't know he had a brother. That's why I was interested in your post.

If I had to guess why Bernie is enjoying his five minutes of fame, I would guess it's because socialism is a tired, run-down idea in Europe. Here, pure socialism is kind of a taboo, so it's cool. He's like a white man's Louis Farrakhan.

  11. Joseph McPherson And that's a perfectly reasonable comment.

What I don't understand is why, despite repeatedly posting left-wing stories that basically follow my own ideologies, and those mostly going unnoticed, very occasionally some of them attract the attention of those on the exact opposite end of the political spectrum. It makes it very hard to prepare for comments like "psychotic shitbags" when 99% of the time no-one says anything at all.

I mean, if it happened all the time, it would at least make sense. As it is, the mechanics of how people respond to posts can be completely baffling. If I understood why this happens, I'd probably post differently. For instance this particular post wasn't really intended to initiate a debate on socialism - I might have limited it to circles, maybe.

Also, "fair crack" was intended to mean, "he's no longer seen as an absolute no-hoper". Doesn't mean he'll win, doesn't mean anyone would be surprised if he lost or astonished if he won. Just that he's no longer utterly discountable. At least, that is my assessment, having only a passing interest in the contest.

  14. No Tyler Durden your right, let's go further to the RIGHT, in a fascist society where corporate interests rule the earth for profit. As you know they will, because they rig the game.
