Nah. Kill 'em all and let their God sort 'em out.
ReplyDeleteThe intended outcome is actually to make the West so fearful of Islam that they will be able to make even more inroads into Western culture and government.
ReplyDeleteOne should ask: why should we be tolerant? The outcome so far of France's tolerance has been death, misery and destruction.
Yeah! And while we're at it, those damn Irish people spent years killing and bombing! And you know what? They were Catholics and Anglicans! So add all of the Irish, the Catholics, and the Anglicans to the list of people who we should pile intolerance and death upon!
ReplyDeleteAnd what about all of those terrorist attacks committed by Christians? Especially American Christians? Can't trust Americans nor Christians. Throw them to the lions!
And wow. Look at the atrocities committed by white Europeans. Attempted genocide of the American Indigenous Peoples? The enslavement of African Peoples? Carving up the African continent for their own games of conquest? Yeah, I think white Europeans have lost all right to tolerance, too. Burn 'em all!
Man, painting entire enthnic groups with a single brush sure does solve all the world's social ills. I feel so much better.
Obviously the point is you can't discriminate against one group of people because some of them do terrible things.
ReplyDeleteHulk SMASH!

ReplyDeleteWell, ultimately you do have to discriminate. That is what the entire global security apparatus is for: to make distinctions between the ordinary citizen and the dangerous criminal. Otherwise we would just say "oh, a subset of your population is downright evil so screw all of you." So discrimination is a requirement: the question is how fine-grained you can be.
Apparently not fine-grained enough.
"...the entire global security apparatus..." ?!

ReplyDeleteThe Muslim population of France is 4.7 million. The number of Muslims who have committed terrorist attacks in France since 2000 is probably less than twenty, even including the most recent attack.

The outcome so far of France's toleration has been millions of peaceful citizens and a few tens of dangerous ones, even making the highly dubious assumption that it is toleration that is somehow responsible for the attacks.
