Guns. The problem is guns.

There are many complex issues in the world today. This isn't one of them.

How banning guns stopped mass killings in Australia

  1. Banning weapons is backwards thinking. The US went thru a Prohibition period of liquor. That didn't work. It just made "underground purchase" the "norm". People were able to get their liquor even during prohibition. The same would happen with a ban on weapons.

  2. Evidently that didn't happen in Australia. There's not much point picking a fight with the facts.

  3. I just do not understand the mindset of "gun grabbers". Just like they don't understand those who value freedom to own weapons, in whatever caliber they choose to own.

Change of subject: I just heard on the news just a minute ago that there was a knife attack in London. The attacker injured three people. So, unstable people may not be able to get a handgun, but that doesn't mean you are totally safe, Rhys. #besafe . You are a valued friend, even though we disagree on a certain topic. You do teach me a great deal on other topics, and that is greatly appreciated. It's just one subject we are on opposite ends. That's ok with me.

  4. Facts like the man in London shot and killed no one don't seem to affect some people. Guns are long range, instantaneous, and come with surprise, as in Bang the argument is over. Don't reply, the argument is over. You ded.

  5. Fred Beckhusen I'll do a minor correction. "_Guns are long range_", actually guns are short range. Rifles are long range.

  6. Mark Ruhland Mark, I realised long ago that if I avoided everyone I had some fundamental disagreement with, I'd quickly become a very lonely hermit. That's even more true on social media than it is in real life. I also think it says a lot about a person who can continue engaging in a fierce debate without straying into personal attacks.

I think it's only fair to warn you, however, that I am a staunchly left-wing liberal and proud of it. If you don't want to receive a stream of pro-socialist pro-welfare, anti-capitalist, anti-gun posts, you might want to unfollow my Political collection. I will respect your choice in this matter and no grudge will be borne against you whatsoever.

What I do not understand about the pro-gun mentality is, where is the evidence that guns do more good than harm ? It seems to me the evidence is overwhelming that guns cause a lot more problems than they solve. No, getting rid of guns won't solve all the problems of the world or make it a perfectly safe place. I just think it would be a lot better than the alternative. So far, I've seen many reports about how restricting guns has been beneficial and nothing at all about what problems gun restrictions cause. Not what problems you think might happen, but what actually happens, statistically.

  7. Rhys Taylor I am of a similar mindset. That is why I try my best, to understand opposing views, without the personal attack. Yet, if the other person starts, I'm not going to ignore that.

I respect you and your views. Not that we agree, but because you have a way of helping me understand your views, without the personal attacks, as well. I'm middle of the road to right wing, but I try not to get to the extreme. I'm not a fan of either extremes.

The staunchly left wing liberal, pro-socialist, pro-welfare is basically what I grew up with. I wanted to see how the "other side lived and have been a republican since I was able to vote. I am not a fan of taxes, because the collection of them and the uses of them have been distorted and perverted, in the United States. They say they are going to go for one thing, and then depending on which party is in power, priorities change. I don't like being lied to by my government, and have written letters stating that. I call them out when I see wrong being done, but do that behind my closed door of my apt. I'm not a "showy" kind of guy. I am long winded, but not showy;-D

I don't have "collections" Whatever you post, goes into my stream. You have thought provoking ideas and that gets me thinking. If I chime in, it's only to let you know my opinion. It is not meant to take over your page. If you think that is happening, feel free to let me know. I mean no harm. Only clarification on issues that we differ on. That way I can integrate various viewpoints into my way of thinking.

Personally, I would say that my handguns are tools. They don't have the ability to meander around my apt or get outside and "shoot up the town", nor do they have have the inclination to shoot at me... yay. They are inanimate objects.

Being disabled, I seem to be more cautious around weapons. I don't need to be dead to learn that lesson;-D I live alone and my daughter is in a totally different state, and I haven't seen her much since her high school graduation. She's go no kids, so I'm safe.

If my daughter does come over, the weapons would be out of sight and locked up.
