I shall be voting for the Liberal Democrats, as they're the only party making any sense at the moment.
UK Prime Minister Theresa May has announced plans to call a snap general election on 8 June. She said Britain needed certainty, stability and strong leadership following the EU referendum. Explaining the decision, Mrs May said: "The country is coming together but Westminster is not.
In his response to Mrs May's announcement, Lib Dem leader Tim Farron tweeted: "This is your chance to change the direction of your country. If you want to avoid a disastrous hard Brexit. If you want to keep Britain in the single market. If you want a Britain that is open, tolerant and united, this is your chance." He also accused the PM of "bottling" the TV debates and urged broadcasters to "empty chair" her if she refused to take part.

Wow! This is going to be interesting.
ReplyDeleteI can't decide if I want this to happen...
ReplyDeleteTeresa May yesterday :

Teresa May today :
"I'm calling a snap General Election."
Surely it should be a month earlier
ReplyDeleteIan Rawlings Since the current situation is so awful anyway, I figure there's not much left to lose...
ReplyDeleteThis is her most cynical move yet. Opinions over the Corbyn leadership put her firmly in favour over him - and the Tories over Labour.
ReplyDeleteShe knows that we are ultimately going to remain in the single market and retain freedom of movement, something she can't admit until after this election.
And while Libs are coming back, we're still a couple of years from being the position we were or close.
I'm genuinely worried by what this may lead to.
I'm hopeful in that :
ReplyDelete- This is the chance for anti-Brexiteers to actually do something concrete.
I'm worried in that :
- Labour don't have a leader
- The Lib Dems are still weak
- The Greens are still bonkers and uncharismatic
- The SNP can't grow any further and even if they wanted to they want Scottish independence, which is mad
- Plaid Cymru are also still mad
- Brexiteers are still stupid
Aaaargh.

Gilmoure deTrimar Probably still more accurate than most views of British politics excepting "Yes Minister"
ReplyDeleteWhich constituency are you? Stephen Doughty (Cardiff S. & Penarth) has repeatedly voted pro-remain in defiance of the Labour whip, so I suspect I'll vote for him rather than the LD candidate.
ReplyDeleteCardiff North.
ReplyDeleteAh, the one where the Tory MP is under police investigation for stealing the last election…
